The Sun
Leo woke up early. The sun was not yet in the sky. It was still dark and cold. He looked out the window. The stars were bright like small diamonds. Leo smiled. He liked the quiet morning.
He got dressed and went to the kitchen. His mom was making coffee. "Good morning, my boy," she said. "The sun will be here soon." Leo opened the back door and stepped outside. He sat on the porch steps. The air was fresh and cool. He watched the eastern sky. First, it was black. Then, it became a little bit gray. The gray turned into a light pink color. A small, bright light started to show. It was the sun!
The light got bigger and brighter. The pink and gray colors changed to orange and yellow. The sun slowly came up over the big hill. Its light was warm and gentle. Leo felt the warmth on his face. The birds started to sing. They were happy to see the sun. A dog barked far away. The world was waking up.
Leo felt happy, too. The sun made everything beautiful and new. It was a new day with new chances. He stood up and stretched. He was ready for the day. He was ready to play, to learn, and to be with his family. The sun was a good friend. It came every morning to say, "Hello, new day."
