Volunteering at a Local Shelter

Once a week, I volunteer at a local animal shelter. I go on Saturday afternoons for about three hours. My main job is to help clean the cages and walk the dogs. When I first arrive, I put on a special uniform and get my supplies. I start by making sure the dog kennels are clean and have fresh water. Then I get to take a dog out for a walk. I love this part of the job the most. It’s so rewarding to see the dogs get excited when they realize they’re going outside. I get to play with them in the yard, throw balls, and give them a lot of attention. It’s also my job to socialize with the cats in the cat room. I spend time petting them and playing with toys, which helps them feel more comfortable around people. Volunteering at the shelter is a great way to give back to my community. It makes me feel good to know that I'm helping these animals feel loved and cared for while they wait for their forever homes. The work is sometimes difficult and emotionally challenging, but it’s incredibly rewarding.
